Being on vacation doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to your healthy lifestyle. Here is your guide to staying healthy on vacation!
Bring healthy snacks.
A lot of the time, it’s the little things that trip us up. We’ll do great at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but slip up when it’s time for a snack. This is especially true on vacations, when snacks may be limited to what you find along the way. Instead of relying on being able to find healthy snacks, bring them with you!
Beef jerky, hummus and veggies, natural nut butters, and fruit are just a few examples of foods that are great for travelers. Click here for more ideas!
You may end up making some adjustments along the way, but even on vacation, starting out with a plan is a good idea. Look at your schedule for the trip and think about what you’ll want to eat for each meal. If you know you’re going out to dinner, take a look at the menu ahead of time to find some healthy options. If you know you’ll have a refrigerator where you’re staying, find a nearby grocery store to stock up on some healthy snacks. By planning ahead, you’ll find it much easier to eat healthy even on vacation.
Staying active is a great way to make your vacation a healthy one. As you plan out your activities, choose some that will get you up and moving. If you’re headed to the beach, go for a swim or head out on a paddleboard. If you’re going up into the mountains, go on a hike. If you’re sightseeing, go on foot to explore the area. It’s the perfect way to have fun on your vacation and stay healthy at the same time.
Indulge (a little).
While it’s important to do your best to make healthy choices, vacations are a great time to loosen the reins a little bit and enjoy yourself. The last thing you want to do is return home wishing that you’d indulged in a few treats along the way! You don’t want to overdo it, so exercise moderation and portion control, but if there’s a dessert you really want to try, go for it. Just make a commitment to get right back on track once you get home!
